I’m Momma. I’m 42 years old and am mostly a stay at home Mom. I was the kind of kid that got grounded from reading because I would ignore my chores and homework while I read. As an adult, I have gone through spurts where I have read more often than others, but when my kids started reading chapter books, I started reading along side them. My love of reading has resurfaced and now I spend as much time in the Juvenile Fiction section as my kids do. We are at the library at least once a week and I joke that our late fees keep them in business. I do still occasionally ignore my chores for a good book.
Bub is currently 10 years old. I struggled to get him to read for a long time. In 2nd grade, we bought the complete set of Magic Treehouse books (48 at the time) for him. It worked!! Until 3rd grade. His interest just dropped off again. But I was determined to get him reading again and started taking weekly trips to the library. Now it’s hard to get him to put books down and go to bed. He loves all things dragons and magic.
Dolly is 8 years old. She is the kid I have to take books away from so she does her chores. She hates getting up early in the morning, but will happily do it if she wants to finish her book. She loves princesses, unicorns, and fairies.
Boo is 5 and about to start kindergarten. He doesn’t know how to read yet, but I am on book 17 of the Magic Treehouse with him. He really struggled with his verbal skills until I started reading to him. I’m amazed how well he speaks now!
You can probably figure this out, but I don’t use my kids real names. This is for privacy since there’s some nasty people out there in the world. I hope you understand.
